How to cook a *fresh* kielbasa!

We’re all used to smoked kielbasa - it’s what we’re used to finding in the regular grocery store. But, what about the lesser-known, uncooked, fresh kielbasa sausage? Have one on your hands and unsure of what to do with it? Here are a few simple ideas for preparation:

  1. Boil it.

Place fresh kielbasa link in a sauce or sautee pan and cover halfway with water. If you’re feeling adventurous, make it half water and half beer! Bring liquid to a boil and let cook for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through to cook evenly. Let rest 5 minutes. At this time, you can crisp it in a pan with some butter and onions, if you wish!

  2. Bake it.

Place fresh kielbasa in an oven-safe dish and cover halfway with water (or beer again!). Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Flip halfway to cook evenly.

  3. Grill it.

Score the sausage evenly to let the juices flow, and place on grill - maybe with your favorite pierogi? Cook for about 10-15 minutes, flipping regularly to cook evenly.

Slice into rounds for sharing or enjoy as a full sausage on your own.
